Charter Currents: 2023-24 Budget Package Includes Surprise Attacks on Charter Schools

Sacramento, CA – The Legislature and governor announced an agreement on a 2023-24 state budget package last week containing four unexpected, anti-charter provisions jammed into the larger package. The budget calls for full funding of the statutory cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), extending the terms of most existing charters by an additional year, increasing funding for charter facilities, and retroactive cuts to some 2022-23 funding programs.
