Legislature Adopts Fake Budget to Meet Constitutional Deadline

Sacramento, CA – Both houses of the Legislature yesterday approved Budget Act legislation for the upcoming fiscal year that shields K-12 schools from some of the cuts the governor proposed in his May Revision by assuming billions of dollars in higher revenues. This budget, however, is a fake one designed to meet the June 15 constitutional budget adoption deadline and does not reflect the requisite agreement with the governor. It also lacks the detailed and important “trailer bills” that address vital details necessary to implement the budget.
